Tema-Ghana, Dec. 22, GNA – The fifth edition of Kwahu Mountain Marathon is fixed for March 30th, 2024, on the theme “Stronger Together—Running into the Future,” as part of national efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle and revamp enthusiasm for Kwahu Easter festivities.

Dr. Edward Kwadwo Boahen, Operations Director of Marathon Foundation, Ghana, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Tema that the foundation was working together with the Kwahu Traditional Council to organise the event, which has become a major activity for the Kwahu Easter Celebration.

He stressed that regular running aids in weight management as it burns calories effectively and boosts metabolism; additionally, marathon training contributes to the development of strong muscles and bones, thus reducing the risk of osteoporosis and fractures.

He said the event would start from Nkawkaw to Mpraeso, about 42 kilometres.

Dr. Boahen explained that the Marathon Foundation, Ghana, working together with the Kwahu Traditional Council, seeks to use the marathon to create a unique platform for the youth to exhibit their talents and grab an opportunity to participate in international competitions.

He said they also seek to promote a unique long-distance race on the mountain, use sports as a tool for promoting health, physical fitness, and tourism, and create a unique platform to harness talent.

The Marathon Foundation, Ghana Operations Director, noted that, as part of promoting a healthy society, the marathon event would also be used as an avenue to champion awareness of drug abuse and HIV/AIDS.

Dr. Boahen also commended GOIL PLC for standing firm with the Marathon Foundation, Ghana, and the Kwahu Traditional Council since the inception of the marathon through a consistent sponsorship package.

He called on Keep Fit clubs, security forces, mountain marathon runners, and sports personalities to begin preparing and registering to participate in the 2024 Kwahu Mountain Marathon.

He said the detailed activities for the 2024 Kwahu Mountain Marathon being organised by the Marathon Foundation, Ghana, in collaboration with the Kwahu Traditional Council would be launched in January 2024.

Dr. Boahen also called on the corporate world to join through sponsorship to ensure that their brand identity becomes part of the global recognition  of the Kwahu Mountain Marathon.

He commended the board, management, and staff of GOIL PLC, Start Times, X-Mineral Water, CPC Company, Promasidor Ghana Limited, Hollard Insurance, Ghana Gas Company, and Rollout Foundation for their generous support for the Kwahu Mountain Marathon in the past.
