Kwahu in the Eastern Region of Ghana is highly regarded for having prominent and magnificent high mountains. Over the years, the mountain has served as a source of tourism for Ghanaians and foreigners, especially during the annual Easter Celebrations.The first-ever Kwahu Mountain Marathon was held in 2018 on March 18. The race started from Nkawkaw GOIL Filling Station and ended at the palace of the Omanhene of Kwahu, Abene.It covered a distance of 42 kilometres, with over 200 participants. It was won by Vincent Vicouba of the Ghana National Fire Service.The 2019 Edition also commenced at the GOIL filling Station, through all the principal towns of Kwahu starting from Nkawkaw, Atibie, Mpreaso, Nkwatia, Abetifi, Obo, Obomeng and terminating at Abene. The race covered 42 kilometres representing a full marathon, with William Amponsah, a University College of Education student, Winneba emerging as the winner.The 3rd Edition of the Kwahu Easter Mountain Marathon was not organized due to covid19 pandemic on Saturday, April 11, 2021, but postponed to this year 2022.

However, the 2022 edition also commenced at the GOIL filling Station, through all the principal towns of Kwahu starting from Nkawkaw, Atibie, Mpreaso, Nkwatia (Rock City Hotel), Mpraeso and terminating at the forecourt of Kwahu Traditional Council. William Amponsah, a University College of Education student, Winneba again emerged as the winner with KoogAchia and Ishmael Arthur taking the second and third positions for the men category, respectively. Sakat took the first position for the female category with Emily Jepkoech (Kenyan) and Naomi Addo taking the second and third positions.

All the events climaxed with a Grand durbar by the Chiefs and people of Kwahu Traditional Council to announce the winners amidst a funfair. The Kwahuhene himself was in the state on all occasions.
